Everyone Needs a Mentor: Young Person Edition

We are delighted to inform you that St Bede’s has been chosen to pilot a young person’s mentoring program devised by Professor David Clutterbuck from Clutterbuck Coaching and Mentoring International. He is one of the original pioneers in coaching and mentoring having introduced supported mentoring to Europe in the early 1980s. He’s the co-founder of the EMCC (European Mentoring & Coaching Council) the leading governing body for European coaches responsible for training standards and best practice. He’s an author of over 80 books across coaching, mentoring and talent management with over half a million people have been trained by him or his methodology to become more effective coaches, mentors or team coaches.

This opportunity is a significant privilege for our school and promises to provide our pupils with invaluable life skills that they can utilise both in their academic journey and in their future workplaces.  The programme will start in the Autumn term and continue through the full academic year, with a session scheduled every school week.

The mentoring programme aims to empower our pupils to mentor each other by staff who will introduce valuable mentoring skills that they can use to enhance their own relationships with other pupils and adults to enhance our mission that “We are God’s children working together to be our best in love, learning, service and worship”. Through one-to-one interactions, group sessions, and practical activities, pupils will have the chance to explore their interests, set goals, and develop the skills necessary for success in today's competitive world.

We believe that this mentoring programme aligns perfectly with our school's mission to nurture well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in any environment. By participating in this programme, our pupils will gain opportunities to develop essential life skills such as questioning, listening, reflecting and providing feedback.

We are committed to ensuring that our pupils gain the maximum benefit from this programme. As such, we will closely monitor their progress and provide ongoing support as needed. Additionally, we encourage parents/guardians to actively engage with their children during this journey, offering encouragement and guidance along the way.

We are truly excited about the possibilities that this mentoring programme presents for our pupils and are confident that it will make a meaningful impact on their lives. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Clutterbuck Coaching and Mentoring International for selecting our school for this initiative.

Places on this pilot scheme are limited and will require commitment from pupils to attend most sessions that will take place either during or after school.  We will write to inform you if your child has been selected to take part in the scheme to confirm that you and your child would like to take part in this exciting programme.

Should you have any questions or require further information about the programme, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Shires by contacting the school reception.  We will provide periodic updates throughout next academic year to keep you informed as the programme progresses.
